Can Obama Still Win the 2012 Election?
A lot of people are wondering if Obama is going to make it to 2013. I mean, after all, Romney is a powerhouse driven by big money, so is there really a chance?
Let me ask you this? Did we think there was a chance before? When I went out to vote for Obama in 2008, I had no idea he would win. I hoped. I tuned in to watch voters waiting in staggering lines for the chance to elect this president. I cheered him on as news stations announced the tally of votes, state by state. Local businesses hosted viewings to celebrate his tenacity, hopeful for a victory.
I remember that moment, when it was officially announced, when he celebrated in Chicago, when people everywhere sat in front of the television in awe. We were in awe of this man. In awe of what he accomplished in this country that still lingers on the cusp of greatness, afraid to jump in with both feet. We’re afraid of change, paralyzingly afraid, and yet we chose this man…a man so different from nearly all of the previous U.S. presidents.
Yes, he is the first Black president…African American…biracial…mixed race…and that matters so much to so many Americans, but even more amazing, he is one of us. He is a dreamer, a man who believes in the impossible, someone who wants to “change the world” and believes in putting people first.
He’s not trying to get rich or to set up the system to benefit him and his millions, he’s trying to make a difference in the lives of everyday Americans…those of us who are usually overlooked.
So what do you think? Can we give big business a run for their money? Can we show them that if the choice comes down to people or money, we choose people?
